PRIORITIES

HUMAN-CENTRIC SAFETY

The safety of all European portside agribulk terminal operators and personnel is essential to UNISTOCK Europe’s mission. We aim to speak as one voice to promote the safety issues and concerns of our members - both at the EU level and with sector dialogue on best practices and new developments.

The work of portside agribulk workers ensures EU food security and safety, so we need to ensure their security and safety.

The UNISTOCK Europe Guide to Good Hygiene Practices

FOOD & FEED SAFETY

Constantly working to ensure EU food and feed safety is integral to our mission. For example, UNISTOCK Europe developed an EU Guide for the storage of agribulk commodities which proposes good hygiene practices for operators that receive, store and deliver agribulk commodities on behalf of their owner.

This guide, first created by UNISTOCK Europe in 2005, was later joined by COCERAL/COGECA, endorsed by the EU Member States and the European Commission (2015), and then translated by the European Commission into all EU languages.

UNISTOCK Europe is currently reviewing and updating the EU Guide.

SUSTAINABILITY & CLIMATE ACTION

Sustainability and climate action is a growing concern for most all sectors, and has particular ramifications for UNISTOCK Europe and our members. Climate issues have major impacts throughout the wider food sector, which we stay on top of on the EU level and via networking with other associations and organisations. For agribulk terminals specifically, issues like ocean and river water level change can significantly disrupt operations.

With that in mind, we are constantly working to improve operations at terminals to become more sustainable. This includes actions such emissions and pollution control/reduction or more efficient electricity use.

Upstream and downstream logistics is a big topic, covering everything from silo loading practices to ships to truck emissions. We’re closely focused on ensuring reliable, efficient, and more sustainable transport systems. This involves relevant EU policy such as Greening Transport Package, as well working on sector issues like bottlenecks.

UPSTREAM & DOWNSTREAM TRANSPORT LOGISTICS

Implementation of new digital solutions at portside terminals is quickly growing among our members and wider network. From safety and quality monitoring, to scheduling logistics, to remote work, digitalisation is changing the way we do things in the sector.

Discussing and spreading these new good practices is a major component of the networking and knowledge exchange among members.
